Eddie Murphy to star in Richard Pryor biopic

Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said? is the brainchild of Bill Condon, the Oscar-winning writer who co-produced this year’s Academy Awards show and directed Murphy in the 2006 screen adaptation of the musical Dreamgirls.

I’m not a fan of anything that Murphy has done since Coming to America, but I expect him to nail this role. Murphy used to do impressions of Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby in his stand up routines. Hey, since Murphy likes to play more than one character is his films, maybe “Bill Cosby” will make an appearance.

Pryor, who died in 2005, directed and starred in the semi-autobiographical tale, Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling, in 1986.

That was a frackin’ great film. Throughout most of the film, his spiritual alter-ego revisits Jo Jo’s life. This leads to semi-autobiographical Murphy having many funny arguments with himself.

Maybe in ten years maybe there will be a biopic of Eddie Murphy with Chris Rock, or … um, maybe even somebody who does impressions.
