Life Imitates Art, which imitates Life Part One

When something happens in real life that first happened in a web comic, it’s not really a case of “Life Imitating Art“, because usually web comics draw their humor from imitating life. However, two recent stories have reminded me of web comics from over a year ago.

Leave Rush Alone!

Some background: Michael Steele, chairman of the Republican National Committee appears on D.L. Hughley’s show and calls Rush Limbaugh’s style “incendiary” and “ugly”. THUMBS UP! But then almost immediately, Steele backs down, bows to Limbaugh’s Defacto Leader authority.

BTW, Deepak Chopra has an interesting article about Limbaugh over at the Huffington Post: Rush Limbaugh: Icon of Anti-Morality. Isn’t that a great title? THUMBS UP!

So, since Limbaugh is such a timid and demure little thing, many prominent right wingnuts leap to his defence. Nice snark from Eric Boehlert @ Media Matters

(quoting Michelle Malkin)”There’s nothing wrong with criticizing Rush Limbaugh. But if you are going to go on Obamedia outlets like CNN and throw around words like ‘incendiary’ and ‘ugly,’ you better back them up”.

Malkin seems to suggest that if he had to, Steele could not back up those adjectives, so it was a mistake for him to use them. We chuckled.

Two other Republicans also apologize to Limbaugh for calling him a ‘brick-thrower’ and an ‘idiot’.

The whole thing reminds me of I Drew This, a political webcomic by Ozzie and Millie creator D.C. Simpson. If you have even a passing interest in U.S. politics, I highly recommend that you read the archives. There are four years of exceptional comics about how George W. Bush and the Republican Party are a bunch of poopy heads. I really love her character of Joe, the liberal beret-wearing eagle.

I also recommend that you watch John Amato from Crooks and Liars channel Chris Crocker to defend Limbaugh.

“Since Limbaugh is running the GOP now, I thought that he could use a little back up from us lefties, right? Michael Steele certainly hasn’t helped the GOP much.”

  1. I like seeing Rush Limbaugh as head of the Republican Party. If he prays every day for Obama’s government to fail, I think that he will reap what he sows. Because if the current administration can manage anything better than a complete disaster, that means Rush will make the Republican party look like a bunch of total assholes.

And considering how they put *him* in any position of political power, I would say that my assessment is correct, and the Republicans are in fact, a bunch of total assholes. His election is the political equivalent of running headlong into an explosives factory with a flamethrower.
