British Police Brutality, BC Infrastructure Spending, Libs Negative by Proxy?, Anti-Terror Legislation, and Meghan McCain’s Fat Ass – KISS IT!

I’m a few days late with all this stuff. I’ve been busy setting up my new blog. Hopefully you haven’t already read these stories 19 times over.

  • Report reveals Shocking Police Campaign of Intimidation against Protesters:

As well as documenting the alarming police tactics at Kingsnorth, the report also highlights a deliberate attempt to deflect criticism through misinformation. Government justified the heavy-handed approach by revealing that 70 police officers had been injured policing the protest; but a freedom of information request revealed that these ‘injuries to police’ included such things as heatstroke, toothache and insect bites. Vernon Coaker, the Home Office minister who had made the claim about police injuries, was later forced to apolgise to the House and admit that “there were no recorded injuries to police officers sustained as a result of direct contact with the protestors”.

  • Campbell promises $172M for Vancouver social housing:

The money is part of $800 million in government spending that will also create jobs and improve schools.

  • Liberals first to go neg via proxy?:

That’s the question/theory from Stephen Taylor. For example, he’s rather suspicious of theGritGirl who joined YouTube on March 10, 2009 but is already cranking out broadcast quality vignette’s attacking the Conservative government.

Have the Conservatives used proxies to level attacks agaist their opponents in the past? Of course. This is nothing new; every political party does it. But in this latest post-Dion, post-economic collapse round of the war where everyone is supposed to rise above, if the Conservatives are holding their fire so they won’t be blamed for playing politics during this economic crisis, the Liberals and their proxies have just given them the green light and the media wouldn’t hold much credibility if they said the Tories fired first.

  • Tory Government Introduces New ‘Anti-Terror’ Law:

the Tory government is forging ahead with its new repressive legislation. Bill C-19 is designed to re-introduce police powers that expired in 2007 when the Opposition parties, a majority in the House of Commons, refused to renew similar draconian provisions in the Anti-Terrorism Act that were subject to a “sunset” clause. Those powers were never used, in fact.

How will the Opposition deal with C-19 this time around? The Bloc Québécois says it will vote against the bill. Less clear is the Liberal position. The Anti-Terrorism Act was enacted in 2002 by a Liberal government. In 2007 a number of Liberal MPs joined with Tories on a parliamentary committee recommendation to support renewal of the controversial provisions.
And the NDP? It will probably vote against C-19.

  • John McCain’s Daughter says Kiss My Fat Ass:

I introduce her as Senator McCain’s daughter, but Meghan McCain is an important voice in the Republican Party apart from her father. She is began to receive media attention in 2007 for her blog, McCain Blogette, on which she documented life on the campaign trail. In January 2009, she began writing for The Daily Beast. She has gained respect outside the party bynot always being willing to tow the the party line. She says that she voted for John Kerry in 2004. She does agree with her father’s positions on global warming, stem-cell research, and the Iraq war, but she supports gay marriage.

Recently she criticised ice-blooded alien Ann Coulter asking, among other questions, is she real or not? Are some of her statements just gimmicks to gain publicity for her books or does she actually believe the things she says? Does she really believe all Jewish people should be “perfected” and become Christians?

The next day, radio host Laura Ingraham responded to McCain’s comments with a totally professional attack on McCain’s weight.

So, blah blah blah. Some American Right-Wingnut says something off-topic and insulting on the radio. *YAWN* What else is knew?

The only part of the story that I’m really interesting is reporting is that while on The View McCain delicisously channels Tyra Banks.

“It infuriates me,” she said. “I’m a political writer on a blog, and all of a sudden I’m too fat to write?” The View’s conservative co-host, Elizabeth Hasselbeck, called Ingraham’s remarks “a low blow.”

McCain said she felt like Tyra Banks when the model “went on her show in her bathing suit and said, ‘Kiss my fat ass.’” “That’s what I feel right now,” McCain said. “I’m like, ‘Kiss my fat ass!’”

Ingraham quickly responded to McCain once again on her show, telling McCain that she needs to learn to deal with satire and “teasing.”

Beautiful! You know, all the teasing from Right-Wingnut Radio would be easier deal with any of them were even slightly skilled at being humourous. If the key to comedy is good timing, Laura Ingraham needs a new watch.

Thanks for the tip-off Crooks and Liars
