British Columbia Request for Vancouver residents to call 911 on beggars was a ‘mistake’: police:

British Columbia Provincewide rent control ‘effectively dead,’ MLA says:

“Renter advocates say tenants across British Columbia should brace themselves for “staggering” rent hikes in the wake of a decision giving a Vancouver corporate landlord the right to bump up rents in an apartment building by almost 40 per cent”.

British Columbia Female ski jumpers get their days in court:Canada's Katie Willis

The Vancouver Organizing Committee must either put on a ski-jumping event for women or remove the three men-only events being planned for the 2010 Winter Games, B.C. Supreme Court was told Monday.

In what is becoming an internationally-significant case, 15 female ski jumpers have gone to court seeking a declaration that Vanoc is violating their rights under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms by refusing to hold an event for them.

British Columbia NDP’s Gender Bender Politics:

The NDP believes that in order to treat women, gays and minorities equally, it has to first treat some of them preferentially.

In a dubious Canadian first that is being played out in the on-going B.C. election campaign, the NDP has reserved about 30 per cent of its ridings for female candidates and another 10 per cent has been designated for “youth, gay/lesbian/bi/transgendered, persons of colour, aboriginal people and persons with disabilities.”

Some of the candidates have been parachuted in by the NDP executive council which has “helped” local ridings make choices from the “under-represented” groups.

Carole James and her NDP call it affirmative action that is required to repair the “institutionalized sexism” in the legislature.

British Columbia the Advocate’s list of the top five nude gay beaches :

The Advocate is a American LGBT-related monthly newsmagazine. Established in 1967, it is the oldest continuing gay publication in the United States (source: wikipedia), so when they list Wreck Beach as one of the top five nude beaches in the word, it makes my moose-heart proud.naked people form peace sign on Wreck Beach

The gay beach basks at the famous clothing-optional beach’s south end. Naked vendors ply the beach offering water, beer, sandwiches, and a surprising array of narcotics. Ask any student how to get to the access paths that lead down to the water. If you have lots with you, leave your belongings in a locker in the Museum of Anthropology near the trailheads above.
