I’m a-freud to love

Today I went to see a psychiatrist. He wanted to know about my smother mother.
Actually, our conversation was pretty superficial. It was our first meeting; I’m going back next week.
So, I have a shrink. I get closer to Woody Allen everyday. Maybe I should adopt a girlfriend from Cambodia.
In other news, there is a new Depeche Mode called Wrong. It really cocks rocks.

October 25, 2008 at 10:49 pm | Posted in Politics, Raves, Videos | Leave a commentThis post on Youtube is entitled “Biden Angered by Tough Questions”. I think that a better title would be “Biden Questions Whether the Reporter is Joking with Him”. The reporter has an agenda that she will not shake. Biden keeps his cool in a “all due respect” kind of way.
Here’s a picture of the Leviton AC320-W Triplex Receptacle accompanied by some delicious sarcasm that I copy’n’pasted from boingboing.net
It stood out for me because my current apartment has triple outlets. They’re the two prong kind though, so I have to use an adapter to plug in a power bar. I’ve never seen triple outlets before. BTW, my new living situation is working out just fine. I haven’t really gotten to know my room mates yet, but I like them. They’re easy to live with.
Sweet Queen Victoria! Why didn’t somebody think of this before?! Was there some engineering issue that had to be overcome to allow such an elegant, ingenious and obvious design? Did this require new materials that were destined for space? Did the secret lie in a spy’s briefcase lost since the end of the Cold War? I would certainly be a proud Leviton engineer if I had sketched this on my cocktail napkin!
Boing Boing also turned me onto the British animated series Monkey Dust. I can’t describe it any better than they can, but I will warn you that parts of it are rather graphic and shocking. For example, in one episode a dog is murdered.
After watching the clip that Boing Boing chose, I went to Youtube, typed in “Monkey Dust” and then just watched the clips in the order that they came up. That method provided an adequate amount of continuity.
Here’s an example clip:

Help the Environment by Eating Less Meat
September 8, 2008 at 7:07 pm | Posted in environment, Videos | 1 CommentI know that it’s a difficult thing to stomach, Ha Ha, but the eating of meat is responsible for 18% of greenhouse gasses, which is more than the entire transportation sector put together. And this isn’t just nutty fringe science.
UN scientist: Eat less meat to tackle climate change
Imagine this, if people cut their meat intake by half, greenhouse gas emissions would be reduced by almost ten percent.
And now an update on my life:
My new job as an ESL conversation coach is going well. It’s a lot of fun. The high point of last week was explaining to a Korean woman what a pot brownie is. I may be teaching a writing class soon. The manager of the school and I are going to discuss it this week.
I’ve been in my current rented room/cave for about a week now. It’s not horrible, but I’m still on the lookout for something better. Tonight I’m going to look at another apartment. It’s a shared living room situation. I figure it’s worth a look. There are two Japanese men living there now. Living there would probably be good for my Japanese study and it’s close to Stanley Park.
I’ve been watching a lot of the Muppet Show on YouTube this past week. Here’s a fan remix that I thought was quite good. It’s Beeker singing Yellow by Coldplay.

November 7, 2007 at 4:52 pm | Posted in Tech Talk, Videos | 1 CommentBelow is some video of HAL(Hybrid Assistive Limb) from Cyberdine.
At first I thought that it might be a joke because of course HAL is the short name of the computer from the Space Odyssey saga and Cyberdyne was the name of the company in the Terminator series that facilitated the rise of the machines.
But the cybernetic suit seems to be a real thing. The video is mostly about the creator, but it does include some footage of the suit increasing human strength.

The Worthless Peons
June 6, 2007 at 3:04 am | Posted in Videos | Leave a commentYou know, I love loser characters on TV who once in a while manage to briefly shine in some way before immediately going back to being a loser.
Grandpa Simpson, George Castanza, Bill from King of the Hill, and Micheal from The Office are such characters. Another one is Ted from Scrubs, played by Sam Lloyd, who happens to be Christopher Lloyd’s nephew.
In my mind, the way that Ted briefly breaks out of being a total loser character is with his singing. Lloyd’s a cappella group The Blanks appears on Scrubs as four disrespected hospital employees. On the show, reflecting their characters’ low status, they call themselves The Worthless Peons.
Here’s a compilation of some of their work on the show. If you listen to the end, you’ll here a rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow that I think is quite nice.
