Save the Bratwurst for St.Bergurmeister Day

Germany’s environmental issues advisory body issued a strong advisory for German people to lower their meat consumption, effectively asking the population to eat meat only on special occasions. The advisory board cited that 15% of Germany’s greenhouse gases come from agriculture. Dramatically reducing meat consumption will diminish Germany’s carbon footprint.

you have been found guilty and fined one shoe

I got the following from The Daily Kos. The person who posted it describes it as an oldie, but I haven’t seen it before:

A. Marriage in the United States shall consist of a union between one man and one or more women. (Gen 29:17-28; II Sam 3:2-5)

B. Marriage shall not impede a man’s right to take concubines in
addition to his wife or wives. (II Sam 5:13; I Kings 11:3; II Chron 11:21)

C. A marriage shall be considered valid only if the wife is a
virgin. If the wife is not a virgin, she shall be executed. (Deut 22:13-21)

D. Marriage of a believer and a non-believer shall be forbidden.
(Gen 24:3; Num 25:1-9; Ezra 9:12; Neh 10:30)

E. Since marriage is for life, neither this Constitution nor the constitution of any State, nor any state or federal law, shall be construed to permit divorce. (Deut 22:19; Mark 10:9)

F. If a married man dies without children, his brother shall marry the widow. If he refuses to marry his brother’s widow or deliberately does not give her children, he shall pay a fine of one shoe and be otherwise punished in a manner to be determined by law. (Gen 38:6-10; Deut 25:5-10)

G. In lieu of marriage, if there are no acceptable men in your town, it is required that you get your dad drunk and have sex with him (even if he had previously offered you up as a sex toy to men young and old), tag-teaming with any sisters you may have. Of course, this rule applies only if you are female. (Gen 19:31-36)

Pirates have seized control of the Sirius Star, a Saudi-owned oil tanker off the coast of Kenya and are steering her towards Somalia.

So what do you do with a tanker full of stolen oil? Do you just steer it up to the dock and start selling it to people with gas cans?

Here’s a link to information about several ballot initiatives that were voted on this past Tuesday in the U.S. I’m surprised that I didn’t hear about any of these initiatives before the election. They cover serious topics such as legalization of marijuana, stem cell research, and assisted suicide.

A Puerto Rican man has been granted his wish to remain standing—even in death. A funeral home used a special embalming treatment to keep the corpse of 24-year-old Angel Pantoja Medina standing upright for his three-day wake. Dressed in a Yankees baseball cap and sunglasses, Pantoja was mourned by relatives while propped upright in his mother’s living room.

I’ve already told you about where you can create a Simpsons image of yourself.

Now I’m pointing you towards Dean T Fraser. He has drawn, among other cool stuff, The Springfield Punx. My favorite is Tobias from Arrested Development.

You can also see some great Simpsons fan art over at Space Coyote.

Alright, Things Younger Than John McCain would be a cheap shot, except that it’s not cheap. It’s pretty good and surprised me more than once.

Things that are older than John McCain include a country, two American States, and even a mountain (sort of).

With Regrets to Old MacDonald

March 3, 2008 at 6:00 pm | Posted in environment, Personal | 4 Comments

I’m going to try not eating cow and pig for a while. I’m trying soy “milk” as well. If that works out, I’ll probably try cutting out dairy.

I’m not taking a stance on chicken at this time. I’m going to wait awhile before making that decision. I think that I will continue to eat fish and other seafood.

There are three factors that have lead me to make this decision:

1. The animal cruelty issue.

I’ve been on the fence about this one for a long time. I’ve heard the arguments that cows have been bred to be pretty much just organic zombies. My personal experience with cows backs up that position, but I’ve only met a few.

No, it was not through cow tipping.

2. The environmental impact issue.

From Wikipedia: Livestock is responsible for 18% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions as measured in CO2 equivalents. By comparison, the world’s entire transportation sector emits 13.5% of the CO2

This issue has a greater impact on me than the first one.

3. President’s Choice Meatless Meatballs and Meatless Chicken Breasts. Look for them at Supervalu, Canadian Superstore, Loblaws, and Extra Foods.

In my opinion, the Meatless Meatballs are indistinguishable from regular beef meatballs. I find that the chicken breast does taste like chicken. However the texture (but not taste) is more like a processed chicken burger.

And of course, many other miscellaneous factors.

So I guess when I go camping this summer, instead of roasting a hot dog on a stick I’ll roast a big clump of broccoli instead.
